Safety First! Introduction to Woodchips and the woodshop-- machinery, hand tools, supplies, procedures, safety protocols. Shop Orientation is a prerequisite for ALL other cluster classes. Required of all members. REMINDER: Members are required to read and understand the cluster class materials in the Woodchips Shop Manual prior to attending each class.

Cluster #02 - Scroll Saw

The scroll saw is primarily used to cut curves and irregular or intricate shapes. REMINDER: Members are required to read and understand the cluster class materials in the Woodchips Shop Manual prior to attending each class.

Cluster #03 - Drill Press & Band Saw

The drill press is primarily used to accurately drill or bore holes. The smaller band saw is primarily used to cut curves and irregular shapes. The larger band saw is primarily used to resaw wood. REMINDER: Members are required to read and understand the cluster class materials in the Woodchips Shop Manual prior to attending each class.

Cluster #04 - Jointer and Planer

The jointer is primarily used to cut flat edges or faces on boards. The planer is used to smooth stock and cut it to uniform thickness. REMINDER: Members are required to read and understand the cluster class materials in the Woodchips Shop Manual prior to attending each class.

Cluster #05 - Sanders

Both stationary and hand sanders are primarily used to smooth surfaces prior to applying finishes. REMINDER: Members are required to read and understand the cluster class materials in the Woodchips Shop Manual prior to attending each class.

Cluster #06 - Table Saw

The table saw is primarily used to crosscut and rip wood to width and length. REMINDER: Members are required to read and understand the cluster class materials in the Woodchips Shop Manual prior to attending each class.

Cluster #06A - Compound Miter Saw

The miter saw is primarily used to crosscut wood to length and to cut simple and compound angles for miter joints. REMINDER: Members are required to read and understand the cluster class materials in the Woodchips Shop Manual prior to attending each class.

Cluster #07 - Stationary Belt & Edge Sanders

The wide belt sander and the oscillating belt sander are primarily used to create a smooth surface on the face of wood. The oscillating edge sander is primarily used to smooth the edge of wood. Cluster #08 - Routers

Portable handheld routers are widely used for shaping the surfaces and edges of wood, and for joinery. The router table is primarily used for edge cutting on straight and curved pieces, for making decorative edges and moldings, for producing joints, and for grooving, fluting and beading. REMINDER: Members are required to read and understand the cluster class materials in the Woodchips Shop Manual prior to attending each class.

Cluster #09 - Nailers, Biscuit and Domino Joiner, Pocket Hole Jig

Pneumatic nail and staple guns are handheld air-powered tools primarily used for driving nails, brads, staples into wood for fastening and joinery. The biscuit joiner is primarily used for aligning wood during glue up. The domino joiner is primarily used for joinery in lieu of traditional mortise and tenon joinery. The pocket hole jig is primarily used to hide screws used to join material.

Cluster #10 - Leigh Dovetail Jig

The dovetail jig is used to make various types of dovetails, primarily for use in drawer and box joinery. By appointment only. REMINDER: Members are required to read and understand the cluster class materials in the Woodchips Shop Manual prior to attending each class.

The shaper is used to make raised panel door parts and custom molding. By appointment only. Prerequisite: Imminent pending project and permission of Instructor. Cluster #12A - Introduction to Lathe - Spindles

Introductory lathe class - spindles. The wood lathe is primarily used to create round shapes, spindles or bowls. REMINDER: Members are required to read and understand the cluster class materials in the Woodchips Shop Manual prior to attending each class.

Cluster #12B - Introduction to Lathe - Bowls

Introductory lathe class - bowls. The wood lathe is required to make bowls of various types. This advanced class is limited to the basics of safely turning wooden bowls. By appointment only. Prerequisite: Cluster #12A and permission of Instructor. REMINDER: Members are required to read and understand the cluster class materials in the Woodchips Shop Manual prior to attending each class. A face shield must be worn by all Members during this class.

Cluster #13 - Panel Saw

The panel saw is primarily used to cut large sheets of plywood or wooden panels or to cut grooves in material too large to be safely cut on the router table. REMINDER: Members are required to read and understand the cluster class materials in the Woodchips Shop Manual prior to attending each class.
