This is a magnificent box in Victorian style. 22 pieces each for the side flowers, top edges, and top flowers. The side pieces all required 8º cuts to the edges while the top pieces required 2º on the edges and 15º on the tops. The aspect of the cover is complicated; although the mounting of the top flowers is made with inner, not visible, pieces that help to glue everything in position straightforwardly. Nevertheless the slipping while glueing was very frustrationg. The pattern is based a design from the beginning of the early 1900s.
The woods are 3/16 and 1/4 inch thickness and are Teak, Yellow Heart, Hard Maple, Purple Heart and Walnut with an oiling with Danish Oil. The final height is Height 6” and approx 15-3/4" width. I was extremely pleased with the contrast in the colors of the woods and the resulting final appearance. The pattern can be found at: http://www.finescrollsaw.com
The estimated time to complete was about 50 hours and the wood cost was over $200 — due primarily to the very hard to obtain yellow heart, expensive Purple Heart and the increased cost of Teak.
