Birthday Boxes

Boxes! In August, Woodchipper Ned Fouste’s grandsons each received a special birthday box handmade by Grandpa. Hard Maple is the primary wood for each box, and each has a reveal at the top and bottom, a thin cork bottom liner, and each is highlighted with milk paint— yes, “milk!” The top of James’ pencil box is Lacewood. The top of Mason’s gadget box is Goncalo Alves, with a Maple inlay. Both boxes are finished with a seal coat of thinned shellac, three coats of wipe-on polyurethane, and a finishing coat of carnauba paste wax.
