Boxes! In December, Woodchipper Ned Fouste’s wife, two nieces, sister, and granddaughter each received a special keepsake box handmade by Ned. Wife Donna and sister Teresa received boxes (patterned after Ned’s design for the birthday boxes given to his grandsons). The primary wood for each top is Goncalo Alves, with Donna’s box inlaid with Walnut and Maple, and Teresa’s box wrapped with a Padauk inlay. The primary wood for niece Crystal’s box is Bubinga, with trim and splines of Bloodwood. Niece Candice’s box is primarily Canarywood, with trim and splines of Bloodwood and Bubinga. Granddaughter Jenna’s box is Rosewood with a Rosewood veneer top, and trim and splines of Gaboon Ebony. The Rosewood veneer is a remnant of veneer Ned used to make a humidor for his son ~30 years ago, 12 years before Jenna was born! All the boxes were finished with seal coats of shellac, several coats of polyurethane, and a finishing coat of carnauba paste wax.
