The 1681 Bowl

This recent bowl turning by Teo Oruc consists of 1681 pieces in 36 layers. Each layer is only 0.145” (4mm) thick.  Final size is 11.81” x 9.25”. From start to finish it took about 2 weeks to finish. Teo worked on it everyday for about 5 hours.  Thus, approximately 70 hours, plus the time to do the maquette. Final piece is made with hardwoods: wenge, padauk, yellow heart, and maple. The third picture shown is with the maquette (trial) piece.
