Guy made this floating bed for his guest room. Though he had doubts along the way Guy is pleased with the finished product. The trick here was to get a big and heavy object (the bed platform - sometimes with people on it) to be stable on top of a much smaller box and still maintain the "floating" effect. I attached the bottom frame to studs in the wall, and then used 8 planks to secure the top frame onto the bottom frame to avoid any tipping. I added an under-bed, motion-activated light in case our guests need to use the facilities during the night.
The main wood used is poplar. Since he knew it would not stain well he lacquered it.
Guy appreciates the Woodchips club. He says that without the club he would have never finished the bed in time for all the company he was due to receive.
