This chest was built from five photos in an auction listing on-line. It would be less work to buy it at auction, but I am sure this one is more beautiful and certainly holds a sense of accomplishment.
The top was made in two pieces, from solid Cherry glued up and cut at 45 degree angle and then joined together. The next step was to kerf the bottom to form a 4" radius at the front. The chest is made of African Mahogany, Cherry and Bubinga on the front and Aromatic Cedar for the back and lining the front and sides. The base is made from Black Walnut and Cherry feet. Finished in Cherry stain and wipe-on polyurethane, this piece is sure to be a family heirloom.
