2022 WOODCHIPS OPEN HOUSE
Lawrence provides us with the following description:
Certainly the most difficult piece I’ve ever attempted. Pattern consists of 3,316 cuts. I used 4mm thickness wood. With stack cutting I was able to reduce the amount of holes/cuts to 1,552. But, if done with thicker wood the stacking could not be done as much and would result in more cuts. Took six weeks and about 150 hours to compete.
The finishing compound miter cuts were accomplished with the help of Scott Sturman and Dan Adle, who manages to do in three days what would have taken me a month, with my result probably not as fine. Many thanks to them.
All natural colors of the woods. No stains.
Roof — Paduk, Walnut, and Cedar
Floors — Teak
Balcony — Mahogany
Walls & Supports — Hard Maple
Fence — Oak
Finish is Spray Satin Polyurethane.
From the website which sold me the pattern: This is a very attractive box in the form of a temple. When closed, the upper part of the temple fits on the lower one. The box was designed originally to contain smoking items, like cigars and matches. I rather prefer you not to smoke so I have removed these details. The pattern is based in an old French design from the beginning of the XX century. http://www.finescrollsaw.com/chalet-box.htm
